Gaming Computer Builds - Before You Buy
Ahh in the digital age of technology, when I first started off we used to play with floppy disks and cassettes, fastrack forward we have gone to having speeds and processors faster than previously ever imagined. With such a huge explosion in technology, new graphics cards, new CPU’s seem to be coming out more often than you think. By the time you have just settled with your brand new gear, there is already something else out that is better. There is no way to really ever catch up.
When you are building a desktop PC, there needs to be a purpose. Most gaming machines would be prioritizing graphics cards in their budgets aligned with a good enough CPU to prevent bottlenecking, whilst standard office PC’s still can do all the office orientated tasks within the realms of 8 GB ram and a good solid-state drive with a decent CPU that has build-in graphics into the core. For editing and video processing, there is an entirely different range of graphics cards to consider, like the Nvidia Quadro range, that is specifically built and tuned through software for editing. In the end, when choosing a rig for video editing, you would be looking for a card with the most VRam available and a CPU that pairs well without bottlenecking.
For a simpler gamer, even second-hand rigs are up to the task for most games. These rigs are usually the best value for money as opposed to the new tech, this, of course, needs to be paired up with knowledge and basic testing of said part purchases, as you would not like to return home to find out that the graphics card you have bought now has a line going through the screen.
Alas for that reason most would choose a brand new path, the warranty, flashy designs and that smell of unwrapping your present will always have a room in every gamer’s heart.
So in summary, make sure you know what you are building your PC for, find a reputable technician or computer shop that builds it for you, or you can build it yourself with a few video tutorials and avoid buying from big retailers as most of the time the value is simply not there.
